What does it mean to commission a piece?

A commission is when a client comes to me for a painting made specially for them, rather than choosing one I have already made. Clients sometime have special places they would like to have in a painting, like family land. Sometimes they don't know exactly what they want, so we collaborate. In those cases, we sit in the space and discuss what would bring the most life to the room in terms of subject matter and color palettes. Oftentimes, clients are inspired by my past work - that's a great place to start, too.  That's the consultation. After the size and subject matter is agreed upon, the client places a deposit. At that time, I make a small study or two for the client to view. This way we know we are on the same page. Adjustments are made if necessary.  It's an exciting process for both of us!

For clients in the Kansas City Metro Area or a reasonable driving distance I provide assistance with framing and  installation. Framing and installation costs are separate from the price of the painting. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me with questions.
